Back To Health
Veterinary Services
Just like human athletes, animal athletes push their bodies higher, further and faster than most. We need to be able to recognize injuries before they become catastrophic. That is why the staff at Back To Health performs whole body wellness exams to evaluate the body systems, and determine how each of these body systems enables them to perform at a maximum level. If performance has decreased, then we need to determine which body system is malfunctioning, and start therapy early.
First we start with a myofascial exam, evaluating range of motion, painful areas, any lameness or impairments. If areas of weakness are found then therapeutic treatments are recommended.
Services
Canine and Feline Physiotherapy
-
Beneficial in treating orthopedic disease, neurologic diseases, injuries, soft tissue trauma and obesity.
After a complete physical exam, we will develop a specialized treatment plan for your dog or cat. Each technique used has a different benefit and not all techniques are useful for each condition. The goal is to improve strength, balance, agility, coordination and stamina. This is done with one on one exercises and combined with other therapies such as acupuncture, laser treatment and hydrotherapy.
Water Treadmill
The water treadmill or also known as hydrotherapy can be used to aid in treatment of many conditions.
Spinal injuries cause impairment of motor function, which may be treated by allowing the dog to exercise in water; it provides support and allows the dog to exercise its muscles while nerve regeneration is taking place.
Degenerative conditions can make normal weight bearing exercise difficult and pressure on joints and limbs may aggravate some conditions, so hydrotherapy can be used in these cases to allow the dog to exercise in an environment where there is no pressure on the affected areas.
Obese dogs can build fitness and lose weight as a result of exercise in a hydrotherapy pool without putting excessive weight on their joints.
Hydrotherapy can also be used as part of a general fitness routine for performance dogs.
Massage and Stretching
Benefits:
-
Enhance immunity by stimulating lymph flow—the body's natural defense system.
-
Exercise and stretch weak, tight, or atrophied muscles.
-
Help athletes of any level prepare for, and recover from, strenuous workouts.
-
Increase joint flexibility.
-
Pump oxygen and nutrients into tissues and vital organs, improving circulation.
-
Reduce postsurgery adhesions and swelling.
-
Relax and soften injured, tired, and overused muscles.
-
Release endorphins—amino acids that work as the body's natural painkiller.
Medical Acupuncture
What is Acupuncture? It is when a needle is inserted into an acupuncture point; which results in a localized release of compounds that stimulate the central nervous system, This causes vasodilation of blood vessels and tissue repair activation. The result is reduced inflammation, decrease in pain and increased circulation.
Acupuncture is proven to aid in the treatment of many different diseases. Dr. Weinberg is certified in veterinary medical acupuncture and feels it is a great holistic approach. She has been able to improve quality of life in many animals.
Why Acupuncture? For dogs and cats, we use acupuncture for treating arthritis, muscle pain, soft tissue trauma, after surgeries to aid in recovery, pain and inflammation caused by joint dysplasia and muscle weakness.
For horses, we use acupuncture to help with muscle asymmetry, pain, joint disease and improving overall balance and performance.
Therapeutic Laser
Used for:
-
Pain Management
-
Wound Healing
-
Post Surgical Healing
-
Rehabilitation
-
Nerve Regeneration
-
Inflammatory diseases
-
Acute Musculoskeletal Trauma
How does the laser work?
The laser beam stimulates the cells and tissue to be healthy. It also reduces inflammation and increased blood flow so that healing can begin. By reducing inflammation, the laser is also a great tool for helping to minimize the pain of many chronic conditions, like arthritis.
Pulse Electromagnetic Field Therapy for Horses
A safe non-invasive alternative that is natural, does not require drugs, has no side effects or risks, and it works very fast and very well.
The end result is improved circulation, increased oxygen concentration in the blood, stimulated cell metabolism, lymphatic stimulation, relaxation of muscle spasms, reduced tension, and increased range of motion.
Theraplate For Dogs and Cats
Non-invasive treatment option to improve whole body. Animal stands on a plate on the ground that uses active proprietary vortex wave circulation. Which improves circulation, helps with tight muscles especially after hard exercise, decreases inflammation in muscle, soft tissue and joints, helps with relaxation.
